About 50 Ways

Our History

50 Ways Rockbridge was born in late 2016 and formally launched in early 2017 to bring community members together in discussion and activism. The organization is called “50 Ways” because the co-founding members believe that a multipronged approach to building community and combatting tyranny was and still is necessary.

Our Mission

Our mission is to build a more just and caring Rockbridge through community empowerment and political activism.

Research, Educate, Act

The organization seeks to “research, educate, act” and therefore promotes the creation of issue groups whose members become amateur experts on a topic, devise ways to educate others, and determine collective actions to take based on their research. Each issue group can call open the overall group to support its actions and events. Issue groups have included: 50 Ways for Palestine; Data Center Action; Defiant Action; Environment and Conservation; Giving Voice; Healthcare; Immigrant Rights; LGBTQIA+ Rights; Racial Justice; Voter Action; Women’s Rights and Abortion Rights. Individuals and groups have engaged in a variety of activities, such as teach-ins, rallies and protests, letter-to-the-editor campaigns, postcard campaigns, and voter registration.

Issue groups are dynamic. They are created according to local, regional, and national needs and contexts.

50 Ways Rockbridge is overseen by a small board. The board meets regularly to ensure that issue group needs are addressed, generate and publicize events, establish strong connections with other groups and community agencies, track national groups and trends, and manage finances.
